Vegan Pregnancy Smoothie Recipe!

If you’re pregnant, you already know the importance of consuming fruits and veggies on a daily basis. We want our growing little one to receive the best nutrients possible, and we want strong and healthy babies.

In fact, following plant-based meal plans during your pregnancy is a great way to nourish your “little bean”, while also giving yourself the right kind of fuel to keep you going. *UPDATE: In 2012 I had my first vegan pregnancy, and my baby boy was a whopping 9.2 pounds!

That’s why red raspberry leaf is one of the most important herbs when it comes to a healthy pregnancy. “Rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, and vitamins A, B, C, D, and E, raspberry also contains the alkaloid fragarine, the constituent that contributes to the plant’s potency as a pregnancy tonic. Red raspberry strengthens and tones the uterus, cleanses mucus membranes, helps with constipation, eases morning sickness, and assists in milk production.”

Just make sure you talk to your midwife or health care professional about your daily recommended dose (for me, my midwife advised I take 30 drops twice a day). Sometimes midwives offer it for sale, or you can grab it on Amazon by clicking here.

Now onto this super yummy, delicious, and healthy smoothie! It’s a great way to get a good serving of fruits, plus a healthy dose of vitamin and minerals from the red raspberry leaf. An added banana gives you an extra boost of potassium and magnesium, vitamin B6, fiber, and vitamin C; the red raspberries themselves of course protect your heart and eyes, (from the compound anthocyanin) and also from cancer and diabetes (helps fight cancer cells, and can regulate high blood sugar). Oh, and don’t forget the ground flax seed, which gives you a good helping of omega 3’s and more of that fiber- it’s a MUST in any pregnancy!

Sounds like a good deal to me!

Even if you’re not pregnant, this is a smoothie that adults and kids will LOVE. I usually make extra and give a full glass to each of my kiddos, who gulp it down in 2 seconds! And if you love this smoothie, check out my sinfully delicious (but oh so right) Chocolate Protein Shake for vegan pregnancies.

Enjoy!
