Happy Holidays! Tis the season to have family and friends over, eat lots of yummy food, give gifts, and be oh-so-merry. However, it’s also the time when we have tons of foot traffic through the house, especially the kitchen! Personally, I like to keep my floors clean, since I have three children (four including my hubby lol…just kidding hun!), and five animals. Yes, you read that right, and believe me, they each do their fair share when it comes to making messes!
In order to keep the house feeling fresh, I like to vacuum and mop on a regular basis. When I wash up my floors, I don’t use commercial cleaner. Why pay money for a bottle of toxic chemicals, when I can make my own floor cleaner myself? This cleaner is better for your home, for you, and it’s cheaper and easy-peasy to make!
This recipe is to be used on linoleum and tile flooring only. If you want to clean hard wood, omit the tea tree oil, as it will damage the wood flooring. *Tip: to make wood floors shine, steep 3 bags of black tea in 1 quart of hot water. Let cool, and remove bags. Wipe down floor with solution. Let dry.
To make your own floor cleaner, you will need:
- Hot water
- Baking soda
- Tea tree oil
- In a mop bucket, mix equal parts vinegar and hot water.
- Add a sprinkle of baking soda, and a few drops of tee tree oil. Tada! It’s that simple!
Vinegar is a deodorizer, disinfectant, and solvent. Baking soda neutralizes acidic substances, and is also a deodorizer (when you combine vinegar and baking soda, it reacts and fizzes. My kids love watching this!). You can use other essential oils to scent your cleaner, but I like using tea tree oil because it’s antibacterial and anti-fungal. Plus it smells lovely!
