green-salsa-300x230.jpgEveryone starts the new year with something they want to change– their weight, their job, their house, etc. This time around I’m kicking off the new year with a whole new perspective. Instead of eliminating something from my life, I’m going to simply ADD. When we add a little extra to our lives, preferably something healthy, it’s easier to keep it there. It’s when we try to make a huge change overnight, that by February we are tossing aside our resolutions and going back to old habits. However, by ADDING, we are not putting the stress on our minds to stop something, but instead working MORE goodness into our routine.

They say if you do something for 30 days it becomes habit, so I’m going to “go green” for January, my goal being that it just becomes a part of normal living.

I’m going to EAT SOMETHING GREEN EVERYDAY. This can be juiced, steamed, baked, or eaten raw.

Would you like to join me? You can START TODAY by eating something green!

Here are some ideas for the next 30 days:

  • Make Green Juices: (Made by you, not from a plastic bottle!) From goodies such as celery, cilantro, parsley, spinach, etc. You can also add other yummy things like carrots and apples- just remember to add something green! It’s REALLY beneficial if you drink these once a day, first thing in the morning (before your coffee!).
  • Steam It: Take any green leafy goodness and lightly steam it for a great side dish. Watercress, spinach, collards, broccoli, asparagus, and green beans are just a few ideas.
  • Toss It: Make salads from mixed greens, veggies, and sprouts. Make your own salad dressing using oil and some apple cider or balsamic vinegar.
  • Eat Greens for Snacks: Have ants on a log for snacks (celery with peanut butter and raisins). They aren’t just for the kiddos! Other ideas are sliced cucumbers and green bell peppers.
  • Add Greens to Sauces: Toss some spinach or other greens into your Italian sauces!
  • Soup it Up: Make green based soups with veggies such as watercress, collards, asparagus, or peas.
  • Shake it: Toss some hemp or alfalfa into your afternoon smoothies. (check out my video for a chocolate hemp shake on Youtube!)
  • Make Salsas: Bust out your food processor and make delicious dips such as guacamole  or raw tomatillo salsa! Here’s the recipe for tomatillo salsa to get you started on something green today!
